Nashville Event Travel Guide
Almost everything that brings people to Nashville happens inside a half-mile of downtown. Bridgestone Arena is at 501 Broadway — on Lower Broadway itself, with the honky-tonks running downhill from its door — the Ryman is a block behind it, and the Titans' stadium sits on the east bank of the Cumberland at the far end of a pedestrian bridge. That concentration is unusual for an American event city, and it is the one fact that should shape your trip: if your event is downtown, you do not need a car at all. If it is not — the Grand Ole Opry House, in particular, is roughly nine miles out at Opryland — you are driving, because there is no rail alternative in this city and there is not going to be one.

Which area to stay in
Downtown and SoBro
The default, and for once the default is right: you can walk from your room to dinner, to the arena, to the Ryman and to a bar without touching a car. The trade-off is noise. Nashville is one of the busiest bachelorette destinations in the country, live music runs late and party vehicles circle Broadway all evening. SoBro, the blocks just south of Broadway, is a few minutes further out and noticeably calmer.
The Gulch
A compact redeveloped grid about a 15-minute walk southwest of Broadway, with its own restaurants and bars. Close enough to walk to a downtown event, far enough that the Broadway crowd does not come with you.
Midtown, West End and Music Row
Around Vanderbilt, roughly two miles from downtown. Restaurants, student bars and the recording studios of Music Row, with a short rideshare into the centre. Suits anyone who wants a downtown event but not a downtown night.
East Nashville
Across the river, and the side locals send you to for bars, restaurants and small music rooms. Five Points is the hub. Not walkable to downtown in any practical sense, but a short drive, and it is the best base if you want the city rather than the strip.
Opryland and Music Valley
A resort-and-mall pocket about nine miles northeast, built around the Grand Ole Opry House. Stay here only if your event is at the Opry, and accept that you will drive or ride for everything else, including dinner.

Which airport you choose changes the rest of the trip more than the fare usually does.

Getting around Nashville
Nashville has no subway and no light rail. The transit referendum that passed here in 2024 funds buses, sidewalks and traffic signals rather than track, so that is not changing in the foreseeable future. The one train, the WeGo Star, is a weekday commuter line running east to Lebanon in the mornings and afternoons only — it is no use for an evening show, and occasional special-event trains are the exception rather than the rule. WeGo buses radiate from a central downtown station and will get you into the core, but they are not built around event schedules. In practice the split is simple: downtown is genuinely walkable, with Bridgestone Arena, the Ryman, Ascend Amphitheater, the Country Music Hall of Fame and the convention centre all within about a mile of one another, and everywhere else is a car or a rideshare. East Nashville, the Gulch, Midtown and 12 South are separate pockets that do not join up on foot. If the trip is downtown-only, skip the rental car — parking downtown is expensive and streets close for events. If it includes the Opry House, Franklin or a distillery, rent one.
Things to do in Nashville
The honky-tonks on Lower Broadway run live music from late morning until close with no cover charge, which makes them the obvious filler for any gap in a schedule; the convention is to tip the band. By day, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum downtown is the serious version of the same story, and daytime tours get you inside the Ryman when there is no show on. The Grand Ole Opry still runs as a live radio broadcast — at the Opry House at Opryland for most of the year, and back downtown at the Ryman for a winter run. The Parthenon in Centennial Park is a full-scale replica of the Athenian original, and is stranger and better than that description suggests. If the event leaves you a spare day, Franklin is about 20 miles south, roughly half an hour, and is the standard half-day trip; the Jack Daniel's distillery at Lynchburg is about 75 miles southeast, around an hour and a half each way.
Where to eat in Nashville
Hot chicken is the city's own invention — cayenne-paste fried chicken served on white bread with pickles — and Prince's is the family business that created it. Take the heat levels literally; "hot" here is not a marketing exercise. The other genuinely local format is the meat-and-three: one meat, three vegetable sides, ordered cafeteria-style. The practical point nobody tells visitors is that most meat-and-threes are lunch places that close mid-afternoon, so it is a plan for Tuesday at noon, not Saturday at eight. Arnold's Country Kitchen is the long-running name. Nashville is not a barbecue city in the way Memphis is, so do not build a trip around it. And the food actually on Broadway is largely an afterthought to the bars — the eating is in East Nashville, Germantown, the Gulch and 12 South.

Yes, and unusually so. The arena is at 501 Broadway, on Lower Broadway itself, with the honky-tonks either side of it. From most downtown hotels the walk is a few minutes. Dinner, the show and a drink afterwards can all happen on foot.
Can you walk from downtown to the Titans' stadium?
Yes. The stadium is on the east bank of the Cumberland River, directly opposite downtown, and the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge crosses to it — roughly 15 to 20 minutes on foot from Broadway, and the walk most people make on game day. The replacement stadium under construction is on the same east-bank site, so this does not change.
Is there a train or subway in Nashville?
