As soon as the tickets are settled. Hotels price against the same demand the tickets do, so rooms near Ford Field are the first to go on an event night and what is left tends to cost more the closer the date gets. Rates on our hotel pages are live for the nights you choose, and each room is labelled free to cancel, non-refundable, or terms shown at checkout, so you can pick one that leaves the date open.

That depends on the venue, and the hotels page for Ford Field says which. Every property is listed with its distance from the venue and a plain label, walkable or a long walk or a drive, so you know before you book rather than on the night. A downtown arena usually has several within a few blocks; a stadium off a ring road often has none.
