The musical based on the 1992 cult film, where two rivals drink a potion that grants eternal youth and immediately discover the fine print, closed its Broadway run at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in June 2026 and handed the whole glittering mess to the road company. The first national tour launches at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, September 12 through October 3, 2026, and then rolls on for years. The show runs on a rivalry, and going as a group means everyone picks a corner. - Spring 2027, the Great Lakes and Texas. Grand Rapids, Louisville, Madison, Detroit at the Detroit Opera House, Oklahoma City, then Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas.

Read the length of the run before you pick a weekend
Touring theatre has a rhythm, and once you can see it, group planning gets much easier. The standard stop on this route is a single week: performances Tuesday through Sunday, with a second one added on both Saturday and Sunday. Monday is the dark night everywhere on this route bar one exception, which we will get to.
Some cities get far more than a week. Cleveland opens with roughly three, from September 12 to October 3. Los Angeles gets three at the Pantages, July 6 to 25, 2027. Boston, St. Louis, Detroit, Dallas and Costa Mesa each get two, and Denver gets close to it.
Why it matters to your group: a one-week city hands you exactly one weekend, so the deadline to commit is real and short. A two or three week city is the forgiving one, with several weekends and a stack of weeknights to work around shift schedules and babysitters. Check which kind of city you are in before you let the vote drag.
The Fort Lauderdale run is the oddity worth flagging: it stretches from December 15 to December 27, adds the single Monday performance on the entire route, December 21, and goes dark on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If your group only ever gets together between Christmas and New Year's, that is your window.
Cleveland is a launch, and launches are their own kind of night
The first stop on a national tour is not the same as the fortieth. Cleveland is where this company gets assembled, teched into a real theatre and played for the first audiences on the route. Playhouse Square is the theatre district in downtown Cleveland, KeyBank State Theatre is one of its houses, and the run opens on a Saturday.
For a group, that has a specific appeal: nobody has spoiled it for you yet. Nobody has clipped the big number and posted it. If your friends are the sort who like getting there first, the three-week Cleveland engagement is the only stop on the route where being early is actually possible, and Cleveland listings will show you what else is on that weekend if you are making a trip of it.
A few dates that already have a theme attached
Some evenings do half the planning for you. Omaha's Saturday performances land on Halloween, October 31, which for a show about vanity, potions and permanent consequences is close to perfect casting. Fort Lauderdale plays the day after Christmas and the Sunday after that. Boston's run sits in the dead middle of January, which is the exact week a group needs an excuse to leave the house.
